Tantric doom and black noise from the hidden valleys of the coldest of antipodean isles. Shamanic death kult.
Blood and Bone. Mind and Soil.

"Being a collection of Death Songs and dark-rites recorded by the Unnamed One on the occasion of his ascension unto the role of Tantric Maestro da Morte following the utter destruction and spiritual evisceration of his erstwhile guru. May we gain from his passing an understanding of the final desolation that awaits us all.

Breathing in The brief moments of this Life.
Ashes and Dust choking the perceptions
Yet giving clarity to the Truth... But for times swift Passing
The stars in your eyes will be as pits
Your bones Dust and your breat Ash.
Let the Light fail:
Extinguish Sight and Sound and Mind.
Like the solar wind through Eternity
The catastrophic roar of Nothingness"

hopefully mrtyu requires little introduction, because the project evades easy description. an odd compound of vedic imagery, metal misanthropy, and violin agony, this music moves away from any particular fan base in pursuit of its distant, darkened idols. ornate shroud is mrtyu’s most potent spawn to date. hewing closer to song form than previous releases, the album conceals antony milton’s violent guitar and violin work behind mrtyu’s characteristic murk. its pieces transition from jagged riffs to eerie ambient scrapes through wooly feedback, approaching the uncanny. although the year is yet young, 2009 will likely not produce a bleaker aggraga record.

MIMAROGLU
"june 2009 release ; antony milton’s deconstructed gypsy / black / doom / bedroom-metal project mrtyu returns with this fine missive of scratchy, lo-fi guitar buzz, violin scrape, occasional drum-machine, and barely determinable vocals (at least that’s what i think that is - listen to the sound-sample) ... leagues beyond the recent 20 buck spin “blood tantra” set in terms of its detachment from any / all contemporary modes ; highly recommended !!!"

AURORA BOREALIS
"MRTYU 'Ornate Shroud' LP - excellent vinyl debut on Faunasabbatha from these NZ death fetishists, at their most musical yet! Excellent!"

Edition of 350. 180 gm. lps in heavy-stock linen-paper sleeves hand-screened, -cut, and Ðglued by reuben little of 43rd parallel press.' Available from Tipped Bowler in the US and Faunasabbatha in France. Faunasabbatha is the Ruralfaune outfit dedicated to occult & ritual sonic sabbaths and to a black metal."

PSEUDO ARCANA
"Recorded away back in 2006 this recording finds itself etched into 160 gram black vinyl and released in both France and the USA simultaneously.
Ornate Shroud finds Mrtyu taking an overtly black metal turn whilst trying to retain the sonic heaviness of old. There are more songs, and more melodies on this than previous Mrtyu albums. Personally I also think it contains some of the most supremely violent and dark sections yet released (though reviewers seem to insist on talking about its lurking beauty..- oh well...).
Some people describe it as a dark free folk album, others as an extreme noise record. Make up your own mind. To me its a Mrtyu record!
LIMITED TO 350 COPIES. Pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Housed in hand screened linen paper sleeves."

TRICKISM
"If folly leads each man into a blindness where he is lost, the madman, on the contrary, reminds each man of his truth; in a comedy where each man deceives the other and dupes himself, the madman is comedy to the second degree: the deception of deception; he utters, in his simpleton's language which makes no show of reason, the words of reason that release, in the comic, the comedy: he speaks love to lovers, the truth of life to the young, the middling reality of things to the proud, to the insolent, and to liars."

DUSTED MAGAZINE
"Apologies in advance for what will be one of at least two recent Dead C. references, but it was only a matter of time before one of these selfish, silly, and nihilistic wanna-be sociopaths operating under the banner of one-man BM released something that owed a little more than a drone or two to the NZ kings of abstract heart/mood. Ornate Shroud is the work of a Finnish BM gentleman who prefers that “The Un-Named One” do the same job that “Richard” or “Stephanie” does for the rest of us, and prefers that anything he didn’t directly create on said album be credited to “the Mrtyu Fellowship.” It’s not so much a point arrived at on the Progression Line-Graph in the Adventurous Metal boardroom (answering/disputing an otherwise dead-on blogger’s question as to whether or not we’ve traveled “from Ozzy to this in 38 years”) as it is metal falling apart all over itself in a rather moving manner, just so long as the listener can keep remembering that it’s all about the mood. Put something on top of the sleeve/cover while it’s playing. (Andrew Earles)"

METAMKINE
